Morgan C Clarinet Mouthpiece - Custom order I don’t really like the M’s that much but prefer the L chambers. Ralph Morgan told me in 1991, at his house, that the square chambered mouthpieces(S-80) are junk, and Selmer made them that way in 1974 (for the new Mark 7's) because it's easier and faster for the machine to cut the square chamber, rather than hand cut a round chamber.

The primer and the four bound books I have will keep me busy for a long time. The mouthpiece features a small chamber, medium facing length and the highly desired narrow window and beak profile. I find it very fluid mouthpiece and it is able to blend very well in horn ensembles and with vocalists.

I have heard great things about the Morgan line of mouthpieces from many saxophone students, professionals, and teachers who say they are consistent from mouthpiece to mouthpiece, play evenly, and are an overall great val… Morgan Excalibur Alto Medium Chamber Saxophone Mouthpiece I don’t think I tried another one since then. could this be a result of the smaller tip opening or is it more likely the size/shape of the chamber?i think it is both. I’ve never really been happy with the medium chamber. This mouthpiece has a smooth even scale, precision control and a singing quality. The tip opening of this mouthpiece is an 8* which for a Morgan is a .105. I do think the MLL had a chamber that was enlarged so I got a bigger fatter sound out of it. Morgan mouthpieces have been around for over 30+ years and have been quite sough after as a viable alternative to the highly desirable and expensive vintage Meyer and Otto Link hard rubber mouthpieces. After many years of playing tenor sax, both as a pro and in a very active family group; I've tested / trialed many more mouthpieces then I can keep accurate count of. It help keep me focused and knowing what to aim for. The tip opening of this mouthpiece is an 8* which for a Morgan is a .105. The TM42 had more of a direct focused sound.Just to make sure I understand your post from 6-29-2010… you say that the Morgan L (the largest-chambered Morgan) seems slightly smaller in chamber than the Links you’ve owned? Its facing profile regarding the table, tip and side rails is in excellent condition. The MLL is larger than a Morgan L from what I remember although it has been a long time so you might want to check with the mouthpiece guys to confirm this……….Say – Looks like Morgan has updated their line, any new reviews in the pipeline? I like your lessons for two reasons. I do vaguelly remember trying an Excaliber and thinking it was way to bright for my alto but that’s all I can remember. And your laid back teaching style appeals to me too. Big, fat juicy sound with lots of character.i actually have an 8L .100 that i switched to from a 7* .105 otto link hr.

Ralph Morgan (1924-2007) Including the video tutorials. With over five decades combined experience in the hand-crafting, facing, and finishing of woodwind mouthpieces, the MOUTHPIECE GUYS are ready and able to meet all of your refacing and customization wishes. You would think with the bigger chamber it would be less powerful and darker but it feels more powerful to me. Although Ralph passed in 2007, his legacy continues to live on through the hand-crafted Morgan line of saxophone and clarinet mouthpieces, and the knowledge he passed on to those few under his tutelage.Finest quality woodwind mouthpiece refacing and customization Last time I tried one was in the early 2000-2003 range I think so I am excited about trying one again. I don’t think I’ve played a Morgan alto mouthpiece yet. Back in the day these Morgan pieces had quite the “buzz” about them. It has a big sound and the mouthpiece feels like it is vibrating when I play it. I love that sound. All Rights Reserved.
