Seal boxes tightly with packing tape to prevent dust from entering.

Wrap furniture legs with a protective material such as furniture pads or bubble wrap to prevent scratching. Put slipcovers on upholstered chairs and cover them with plastic chair covers. Place plastic covers on mattresses.

Label boxes on all sides and keep a list for reference. Clearly mark all boxes containing fragile items. Place fragile boxes on top of heavier boxes.

Utilize the space inside dresser drawers and larger appliances to store small items. Secure items in drawer by filling empty spaces with towels or packing paper.

Pack books flat to protect their spines. Line cartons with plastic and fill empty spaces with packing paper.

Use plenty of paper to pack dishes and glassware. Place a layer of packing paper inside the bottom and top of cartons. Wrap each dish and glass.

Use wardrobe boxes to store draperies and clothing.

Store items you'll need most often at the front of the unit and create an aisle to allow access to all your stored items.

To keep them flat, Protect photographs by placing them between pieces of cardboard.

Drain gasoline and oil from lawn mowers and other items with small engines.

When storing metal items, wipe all metal surfaces with a few drops of machine oil to prevent rust.

Use climate control for humidity sensitive items.
