Her soulful introspection and stunning beauty often call to mind her countrywoman Ingrid Bergman, which prompts one to imagine what a great star Olin might have been, and what roles she might have played, had she been around in the 1930s and 1940s. He is all-powerful, he is elated, everything has become clear at last! Oh well just makes Mr. Jones all the better. All the moods and feelings this man experiences is brought to life so expertly by Richard Gere. The film echoes what happens in real life for many with bi-polar as they drive those that love them most away.

The adult life of David, who would eventually become King of Israel, is presented. But the saddest part about "Mr. Jones" not being recognized for its great moments is the understated performance of Lena Olin, who is almost as good as in "The Unbearable Lightness of Being" (1988) and in the second season of "Alias". 2 out of 3 found this helpful. After being arrested during a manic episode, a man who suffers from bipolar disorder is treated by a psychiatrist who begins to develop With nothing else going on, screenwriters Eric Roth and Michael Cristofer can do only the predictable — have doctor and patient fall in love. This naturally gets him carted away as a loony. Menu. This was Mike Figgis' first film after the rather wonderful and haunting "Liebestraum" and compared to that it's a disappointment.

doesn't necessarily offer up sufficient character development to justify the movie's ultimate plot and dynamic interplay with Richard Gere's character as Mr. Jones, unlike perhaps a student intern that would have required much less back story and more consistent with the storyline. Was this review helpful? It is quite tough to have a disorder like that taking over your life and feel that you aren't the same as everyone else. Roger Ebert noted that the film would have been better if the romance plot between Jones and Libbie was left out, since it appeared forced and contrived. What he experienced has been interpreted by the construction worker, the ambulance staff and psychiatrists as being medical, and is treated as such.
