So much I liked about it. The derelict manor house, the overgrown maze the secret gazebo all became vivid in my mind.everyone, especially mystery lovers or Mary Stewart fansI just adore this book. This was, if I'm counting correctly, my fourth time through the book, and still I couldn't put it down.How can you not love a book that mixes the mundane with the paranormal, the present with the past, and a love story with a mystery. But who is it, and who among her cousins can be trusted?I read a whole bunch of gothic romances back when I was in high school, but after I discovered historical romance, I never looked back. So, so very worth the read. Also, my paperback's 1970's cover didn't help:[ Jonathan Ashley had died as the result of a hit and run accident. This, my second Stewart book, didn’t enchant me as much. I was half expecting something like Dorothy Gilman's [I fell for the class divide between Bryony and Rob, so even though Stewart drops hints at the beginning that he's right for her, she also plays up that class difference enough that I believed it was too big an obstacle. to beautiful, crumbling manors where people can communicate through telepathy with their cousin, whom they refer to as "lover.As you can see from my rating, I liked this book quite a lot, which is a bit of surprise since the elements of the book really didn't work for me all that well.
